After a year of intense engineering draws to a close, One Laptop per Child is getting ready to take our new much faster XO-1.5 laptop out of the oven…
We ask educators and hackers the world over to taste our freshly baked treats: who do you know, who has Great Ideas for firing up classrooms using OLPC’s brand new XO-1.5 laptops, building lifelong opportunity for the world’s poorest children?
Take a Big Bite: If you are planning work on content, software, or hardware learning projects with an XO, please apply today to our contributors program. If OLPC’s XO-1.5 C2 early production laptops can help you and your community innovate using Sugar and Gnome learning software, you may be able to get free laptops for development and testing. OLPC and Sugar Labs would love your help empowering deep Learning/Deployment in some of the most challenging environments and underserved countries you know.
We recently modified the Contributors Program F.A.Q. to make clear that, in addition to content, software, and hardware work, we also encourage proposals for free laptops from volunteers doing exceptional and creative outreach/advocacy work.
Do you still need background on the XO-1.5’s breakthrough new performance and possibilities before you apply? We invite pioneering educators and experimenters to jump in, helping pave the way for the next generation(s) of hands-on educational computing and open educational resources in all languages!
Thanks: group proposals especially welcome from informal user groups in any city worldwide!! If you too need help forming a community volunteer group like the ~100 people who recently signed up in Los Angeles, please write volunteer@laptop.org
(Small print: OLPC will pay for shipping and customs/import fees worldwide if you are approved, in all countries where this is possible)

I realy appreciate your work.We have tried it at Konyao arid zone primary school [Kenya]and we have seen the need for more laptots.
I am really Happy to see this. Please I live in Nigeria and I really need a laptop for my school project. My problem is that i do not have the money to a laptop. I will appreciate it if i can have a laptop
I also saw this offer on Facebook as a free offer and was wondering what could I do to get a free laptop….We have a wonderful school system here and it would be nice to help to get the kids there laptops to use for homework too…How would I do that?
Tell me more about this offer. I have a 4 year old granddaughter that is hearing impaired (totally deaf) and loves working on the computer. Sadly, computers are quite expensive and we haven’t been able to find an inexpensive one that can help her. She is learning sign language and I’m searching for ways to help her learn. Parents are both fulltime students and currently have no income so I’d like to help somehow. Is it possible to purchase one of these computers? What is the cost? Is this offer only for third world countries or do you also consider help in the US? Please respond.
Aloha,
Dinah
How do we get these computers for children in Haiti? Helping a private school destroyed by the earthquake rebuild and get supplies and computers. Need help !!
Please note, these laptops arefor contributors — people who are working on projects or outreach that will support deployments around the world.
Linda and Jun, please see the work taking place via OLPC Haiti and OLPC Philippines. Isaac, it’s good to hear about the progress at Konyao; I hope you will be involved in the future work being done by OLPC Kenya. There is a brunch discussing this and other African projects this weekend.
How much does a laptop cost if One of my friend would like to give laptops to school students @ City of San Jose Del Monte, Bulacan, Philippines. I’ll pusuade him to donate laptops to deserving students @ schools here in our city. Sincerely, JUN ROBES
We would like to find out how to get computers for the kids of Sapele, Nigeria.
